Recreational rowing programs offer ARC members a way to get on the water with guidance on their rowing technique. These programs are also in place to help our members increase their sculling skill to pass our sculling checkouts. All members are invited to compete at regattas, even if they are participating in a recreational program.

This program is open to recent Learn to Row graduates and members that are new to the club.
For new members with limited or no prior rowing experience, Novice Masters provides up to one year of entry-level coaching. The focus of this program is to establish a baseline of fundamental skills that are necessary for rowing independently or with a group for both recreational and competitive members. This team will also prepare you to get you ready to pass your Level 1 Safety & Skills Review.
Members are expected to leave Novice Masters knowing the following skills:
Our Level 1 programs are designed to members to further refine their rowing technique. Members who have passed their Level 1 Safety & Skills test can sign up to row during any of the practices for Sculls 1 or Sweeps 1.

ROWERS: Recreational & Aspiring Competitive
SAFETY & SKILLS TEST: Level 1 required; Level 0 by recommendation of coach
This is a flexible group that affords members with an opportunity to practice sculling outside of their sweep rowing groups. Members can work with coaches in smaller groups during 1 hour sessions to practice for their Level 1 or Level 2 Safety & Skills tests.

After passing their Level 1 Safety & Skills test members will progress into Rec A where they can continue to become comfortable with a steady stroke and learn new drills. Members are expected to progress towards their Level 2 Safety & Skills check out to move into Rec B, or Competitive Masters.
Our Level 2 programs are our core recreational programs. Members who have passed their Level 2 Safety & Skills test can sign up to take advantage of these programs.

On-Demand provides coaching for primarily recreational and sometimes competitive members. Because we understand that our members have busy schedules and may not work at a 9a-5p job, our On-Demand coach offers an evening and morning session each week.

The focus of Rec B is to provide members with opportunities to further refine their rowing technique with an emphasis on improving their fitness. The goal is to build up to longer steady state rows with a mix of shorter, higher intensity pieces while focusing on maintaining proper technique.
