Launches are available for use by qualified members. All safety equipment must be in the launch when it is used; the launch's registration also needs to be on board. The Launch registration’s are stored in the safety bags. And just in case, a fire extinguisher is in there as well.
The engines and the color coordinating canister are stored in the garage/shed, and the safety equipment is there also; the bathroom key opens that door as well. You can refill the smaller coordinated canister from the refill cans located in the back of the cage in the center. All ARC fuel is marked please do not use GA State or Westminsters. They use a mix or gas/oil that will mess up our engines. Please keep the refill containers off the floor in case of floods. All the can stored on top of the shelves in the cage are spares and shouldn't be used. They may or may not have been cleaned properly.
Ten Rules of Motor and Launch usage
1. Gas Cans Match & Engines - The gas cans that match each colored motor will now be stored directly under the motors in the garage. The small gas cans don't ventilate, so it won't pose a problem in the closed up room. Only use the right color tank with the color coordinated engine. This makes it easier to track down where the issue might be coming from.
2. Refilling Small Gas Cans - If you need to refill the smaller colored can, the large refill containers are still located in the center of the cage. Please do NOT use the Westminster's can or any of the GA State cans they use an oil/gas mix and it will mess up our motors.
3. Do Not Refill Large Gas Cans - If no gas is in the refill cans please don't take it upon yourself to fill them unless you talk to Equipment Manager first. We put a special stabilizer in with the gas, to help the run better and not gum up the spark plugs.
4. Avoid Sand in Engines - Sucking up sand into the motors really doesn't help them run better. Sometimes in our river it hard not to do that but please do your best to minimize this.
5. Flooded Gas Cans - If you find a can of gas floating in the cage after a flood it is best to not use that can again, until it has been properly cleaned, so it doesn't have water in it. Water and Gas really don't mix.
6. Storing Refill Cans- Please keep the refill cans in the cage on the second shelf so that if it does flood, number 5 can be avoided.
7. A Little Choke is Good - If you are using a motor, push the choke in as soon as the engine warms up. Do not leave the choke switch out the whole time.
8. Running Engines - These motors really need to be basically used wide open once in a while. We always use them at such a slow pace. So as long as you aren't in the no-wake zone or waking someone to take a stroll up the river with the engine wide open. Your crew will be fine for just a few minute's waiting for you at the cliff.
9. Safety Bags - Please make sure you always take a safety bag with you in the launch. Fire extinguishers will soon be placed in the safety bags as well.
