Two rowers in a shell can be called a double (2x) or a pair (2-). In our fleet, we rig our shells as 2x’s; but, some of our advanced shells can be rigged as a 2-. While most pairs are rowed without a coxswain (2-) today, pairs that were rowed with a coxswain were referred to symbolically as 2+. The pair is one of the hardest shells to master and our members are required a minimum check out of level 3 and a recommendation from a coach. Doubles (2x) are one of our most popular shells to use during the week and for competition at regattas.
