Cost of Membership

Regular New Members
New members pay the following charges upon joining the Atlanta Rowing Club:

a) Annual Membership Dues (see table below for exact amounts);

b) Initiation Fee - $300, half of which is due at joining, and the other half is due the following year;

c) Annual Maintenance Fee - $100, which can be worked off by gaining eight hours of maintenance work credits.

Prorated Fees:  The annual membership fee and the maintenance fee (as well as the hours) are half the regular amount for new members joining on or after September 1st.

Work Credit:  A work credit may be given at the beginning of a member's second calendar year and in subsequent years.  The work credit is made against the previous year's maintenance charge and it is earned by contributing to ARC work parties, helping with Learn to Row classes, or through other Board-approved work that benefits the club (including serving on the Board).  Note that eight hours are required for each family member who belongs to the ARC (e.g. if a family membership comprises two adults, 16 hours are required for this family).  Completed work hours must be communicated to the person identified by the Board.

Head of the Hooch Regatta:  All ARC members are asked to help as volunteers to run the annual "Head of the Hooch" regatta, held on the first weekend in November in Chattanooga.  This second largest regatta in the country is the club's only fund-raiser.  Every club member is expected to contribute at least six hours of his/her time, eight hours if they participate in more than one race.  If a member volunteers more than eight hours at the Hooch, those hours in excess of eight are counted toward a member's Work Credit.  For every hour a member falls short of the minimum six hours requirement, (s)he owes the club $10 in order to defer some of the costs of hiring outside help instead.  (You find the details in ARC's Hooch Volunteering Policy).

Learn To Row Participants
The fee for the LTR program is $250.  Upon completion of this program, graduates are invited to continue rowing with the club for the remainder of that calendar year after payment of the maintenance fee (which can be worked off) and half the initiation fee.  There are no other charges for novices in the calendar year in which they take their class.  The remainder of the initiation fee will be due with the following year's charges.

Temporary Memberships
This category is intended for experienced rowers who are in the area for a short period of time, such as students in town for the summer.  This memberships runs for three months.

Social Memberships
This category is for those members who do not intend to row but who would like to participate in the club's other activities.

Coxswain's Membership
Many of our crews are in dire need of coxswains - those (mostly...) kind souls who steer the boat - and if you appreciate the opportunity to boss four or even eight (mostly bigger) people around at your will, you should consider this option.  Coxes do not pay any membership dues or initiation fees and are exempt from all volunteering requirements.

Approval Process
Upon receipt, the new member application is reviewed by the Board.  After approval, the new member will be welcomed by the Membership Chair and club details will be discussed.
