Chattahoochee Sprints – July 22nd

This year the Atlanta Rowing Club will hold its 2nd annual Chattahoochee Sprints on July 22nd starting at 8:00 AM.  The scrimmage is open to juniors, masters, and collegiate athletes. Come out to the boathouse, race, watch racing, eat lunch and more.

The Course

ChattahoocheeSprints2017

All races will be 1,000 meters up-river beginning at the end of Azalea Park and finishing to the Roswell River Landing. The course will have 3-lanes with a floating start. Buoys will be placed at every 250m to divide the lanes and the start and finish will be marked with two large orange buoys.

We will not be using stake boats at the start line. With the exception of time trials, all races will be a floating start.

Racing & Progression

Events with 3 or fewer entries will be raced as a final.

Events with 4 to 6 entries will race in two heats and one final. The first place finisher of each heat advances to the final as well as the finisher with the next fastest time from either heat.

Events with 7 to 9 entries will race in three heats, an A Final, and a B Final. The first place finisher of each heat will advance to the A Final and the second place finisher of each heat will advance to the B Final.

Events with more than 9 entries will race in two lanes for a time trial during their scheduled heat. The first three finishers for the time trial will advance to the A Final, the next three finishers will advance to the B Final, and the next three finishers will race in a C Final.

Racing will be held from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM

Inclement Weather Policy

The local organizing committee (LOC) may delay or cancel events in the case of inclement weather including, but not limited to: thunderstorms, strong winds, and fog.

In addition to inclement weather the Chattahoochee River is also subject to changes in river depth and water speeds. In the case that the race course is not suitable for three lanes of racing, events will be run in a 2-lane time-trial format.
